Edgewood LifeCare Community in North Andover, Mass., has been given approval by its board and the town of North Andover to build small house residential accommodations for seniors.

The project is based on the small house model concept and provides each resident with a private bedroom and bath located off a central dining and gathering space.

Edgewood’s expansion will include four small houses clustered together, and each house will accommodate 10 people. Three of the four will be designed specifically for residents in need of memory support. The other one will be for assisted living residents.

All houses will feature an open kitchen and dining area, a family room area, laundry room, spa, and den, and each resident's private living quarters will have access to a private courtyard and garden area. A beauty salon and rehabilitation gym will also be part of the home.

Construction will begin this spring.
