A jury of industry professionals met for a live event Jan. 22-23 in Naples, Fla., where they determined the projects that would take home awards in the 19th annual Environments for Aging (EFA) Design Showcase.

The 23-member jury is appointed by EFA publication partners: the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments (SAGE), The Center for Health Design, the International Interior Design Association, and the American Society of Interior Designers. The program is an annual review of projects in senior care settings, from conceptual designs to newly completed buildings, produced by EFA in association with the partner organizations.

With 59 projects submitted overall, the group of architects, interior designers, providers, consultants, and researchers accepted 47 projects for publication in EFA’s Spring 2015 issue. Of those, five earned the top honor of Award of Merit, with one additional project given an Honorable Mention.

The winning projects are as follows:

Category: Unbuilt (projects in progress)

  • T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Dallas
Awards of Merit: PRDG (architecture) and MESA (landscape architecture)
  • Rose Villa Pocket Neighborhoods and Town Center, Portland, Ore.
    Award of Merit: RLPS Architects

Category: Built (new construction and/or remodel-renovation)

  • The Cottages at Hearthstone, Pella, Iowa
    Award of Merit: Pope Architects
  • Garden Spot Village, New Holland, Pa.
    Award of Merit: RLPS Architects
  • Spring Lake Village, Santa Rosa, Calif.
    Honorable Mention: Perkins Eastman

An awards ceremony will be held at the EFA Conference (April 19-21, Baltimore), and winning projects will be profiled as part of Showcase editorial coverage in the Spring 2015 issue of the magazine.

The judging was held at Moorings Park’s Center for Healthy Living in Naples, a project that earned Wegman Design Group an Award of Merit in the 2014 Showcase.
