The Milwaukee Catholic Home’s (Milwaukee) tagline is “Experience. Community. Spirit.” All of these elements came into play as the new lobby was designed to reflect the mission, vision, and values of the Milwaukee Catholic Home.

The lobby renovation was a part of a larger master plan to refresh the home to be inviting and modern. Throughout multiple renovations including converting skilled nursing beds into a community-based residential facility, a new entrance canopy, and the lobby renovation, the building remained occupied and there was minimal disruption to the residents.

During the design process, residents, front-line staff, leadership staff, and friends of the Milwaukee Catholic Home from the community were invited to complete questionnaires, participate in listening sessions, and give input which resulted in the established design.

The building’s lobby was expanded and transformed to foster a more updated environment and destination for residents. The new reception desk greets people and serves as an information hub, while an adjacent casual seating area includes new furniture, plants, and accessories. The unique floor pattern emulates the ceiling design and creates a wayfinding path for residents. Display cases and trim of rich wood complement the warm lighting material finish palette. New flooring is more durable, easier to maintain, and more comfortable to walk on. The new look, feel, and function of the lobby has increased resident and staff satisfaction.

The lobby renovation further enhanced the access to the adjacent large, multifunctional outdoor patio, which facilitates additional summer activities for the general community including cookouts, open houses for new residents, and entertainment group performances.
